Credits & Courses

Students will receive 3 credit hours from one of the accrediting institutions below. We encourage students from all majors to apply, as we take an interdisciplinary perspective to examine global issues in the conservation of unique wildlife, natural systems, and cultural places.

Below is a list of the institutions from which you may choose to receive credit for this program, along with the tuition costs and course prefixes.

June 8 - 15, 2008
University of Montana: ~$780 (2007) for 3 semester credits in FOR/ RECM 395 (Sustaining Human Societies and the Natural Environment)
University of Florida: TBA for 3 semester credits in LEI 4955/6931 (Sustaining Human Societies and the Natural Environment)

July 8 - 15, 2008
Oregon State University: $799 for 4 quarter credits (~3 semester credits) in INTL 499 (Sustaining Human Societies and the Natural Environment)
(Note: All students enrolling as non-degree students at OSU for the purposes of this program will need to pay a $25 admission fee to OSU prior to participation.) Virginia Tech University: ~$780 (2007) for 3 semester credits in NR 5954/5954 (Sustaining Human Societies and the Natural Enviornment)

Program Fees

The program fee for the 2008 AUIP Humans and the Environment short course in Fiji is $1,050. Please note: this fee is subject to change depending on exchange rates and specific program activities. This fee includes:

• Transcript
• Accommodation at hostels
• Orientation
• Most meals
• Group activities
• In-country transportation

Additional costs that students are responsible for include:

• Tuition (3 credit hours; see above)
• University administrative fees (set by the accrediting institution; see above)
• Passport
• Roundtrip airfare to Nadi (a stop-over can be arranged for those already in New Zealand or Australia)
• Books/ course pack
• Personal expenses and some meals

Eligibility

Students should have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be in good standing with their home university or college. We encourage students from all majors to apply, as we take an interdisciplinary perspective to examine global issues in the conservation of unique wildlife, natural systems, and cultural places.

This program is designed as an optional extension for the short programs in Australia and New Zealand, but all students are eligible to apply.
