Biography Peter trained as a
zoologist and has worked in educational tourism for the past two decades. He’s been
Expedition Leader on many ship-based natural history tours, and lectured on the
wildlife, geography, and environmental issues in such places as Antarctica, the
Arctic, Patagonia, and Alaska. He contributes
lectures to courses in Antarctic Studies at the University of Canterbury’s
Gateway Antarctica and is an Affiliate Professor with the Geography Program at
the University of Alaska. When not involved with teaching or guiding, Peter keeps
busy working to ecologically restore a group of small islands he has purchased
in the Falklands archipelago. As the Director of the Sub Antarctic Foundation
for Ecosystems Research (SAFER), a non-profit conservation organisation, Peter
is actively involved in improving the wildlife habitat on these islands. In
recognition of these efforts, he was awarded the New Zealand Antarctic
Society’s Conservation Award in 2008. He’s co-author of the authoritative Antarctica Cruising Guide, and devotes
much of his free time to the never-ending search for the perfect bakery!
